Please don't kill my vibe: Food and your mood
While it's no secret, that stress, lack of rest, and exercise can contribute towards how we feel, our diets play a major role in what controls our hormones, particularly in women. According to Marcelle Prick Nurse Practitioner of Women to Women, "Certain foods can disrupt hormonal function and possibly even lead to mood disorders, anxiety, or depression. Some of the most common foods to avoid are: dairy, gluten, processed foods, and sugar." Why? Prick elaborated on the subject matter, "One reason these foods create a problem is due to the protein structures they contain which interferes with optimal hormone processes. Sugar and processed foods also upset insulin levels and can interfere with optimal hormone function as well."
So what foods should we eat to help ease our hormonal disruptions? Nuts, seeds; flaxseeds, chia, almonds, leafy greens, vegetables such as cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale, cabbage, avocados, fruits such as apples, berries, pomegranates, green tea, oats, spices such as tumeric, ginger, cinnamon, buckwheat, plain organic yogurt, dark chocolate, use oils olive oil, flaxseed oil, coconut oil.
