Coming soon to your hand-held device: The new Instagram shopping experience

Instagram, now owned by Facebook, will be adding yet another feature to the mobile app that will enhance the customer’s buying experience. Shoppers will be able to purchase items straight from the Instagram app. Per Instagram’s blog post “mobile has become more and more popular, it’s beginning to change the way people discover and purchase home goods.”

Currently the new feature is in its beta testing phase and was rolled out to 20 Retailers which includes the likes of Abercrombie & Fitch, BaubleBar, Chubbies, Coach, Hollister, J.Crew, JackThreads, kate spade new york, Levi’s Brand, Lulus, Macy’s, Michael Kors, MVMT Watches, Target, Tory Burch, Warby Parker, and Shopbop.

With 500 million monthly users and counting, this could be huge for online clothing retailers, salon owners, cosmetic lines, fashion designers and more! Instead of your customers having to leave Instagram to search for products on your website, they can purchase the items you post directly from your Instagram account.

Look at it this way, instead of having to direct traffic to your website, customers can go directly to your Instagram page browse and purchase products. For example, many salon owners are launching their own hair care and accessories lines. Having your products available for purchase instore, on the website and Instagram can essentially increase sales and profits.

Ryan McIntyre, CMO, JackThreads. “This test is going to change the scope of what we, as retailers, are capable of offering on mobile. Instead of having to transition over to the JackThreads app, our customers will be able to shop seamlessly from their social media feeds—allowing us to reach guys where they’re already hunting for what’s new.” -Instagram Blog Post.

Instagram Shopping has offered another way for today’s customers to be able to access deals, products and services at the touch of their finger tips.
